Tea in the garden

6 months until Christmas!!
Terri is hosting tea in the garden today for Tuesday, I have been looking forward
to this for weeks.
But wouldn't you know when I got up today it was pouring and has been all day,
so just going to do a little tea. But first
This is a new potting bench that I am working on, it needs to be painted out, table
was a cheaply from an auction that a neighbour makes for work benches and the
heart shelf we couldn't get a bid on at auction. So a follow up soon.
My garden is getting ready for tea, hostas are doing great... So before we have our
tea, lets do a little walk around..
New flower bed

I think this is a Japanese lilac, does that sound right, have two one isn't doing as
well as the other.
Another huge hosta that is taking over, grows daily
Climbing hydrangea doing amazing well ( hope that is the correct name too)
Before I get in to the tea here is my daughters dog, spying a frog, have to watch
her because she jumps in

We will have to sit on the deck as it started to pour again.
Come in and sit down, want to show you a new set I got at auction on
Friday evening
This set is so pretty and fragile, just love the delicacy of the roses.

Demi-tasse?
it is just so pretty, one customer said it was a coco set, but I don't think so

My first rose

Isn't it exquisite, water drops on the petals, oh my...
Now enough of playing around, time for the tea, seeing we are having it in the
garden-sort of, going to use my Royal Winton teapot of the cottage in a garden.
Isn't this teapot so charming? can't you just imagine staying there,
enjoying a cup of tea at the pond

who can resist fresh strawberries at this time of year, this little dish is
by Royal Standard and its the Rose of Sharon. Cheated with splenda on
the berries.

the other dish is Royal Albert "old country roses"

isn't this paragon tea cup pretty a soft blush pink with an yellow and pink
rose on the inside of the cup.

the other tea cup is a Shelley-you can never go wrong with Shelley, they
seem to match everything. I love sipping tea from the lip of the cup, fits so
perfectly.

the screen in the background I got a couple of weeks ago, yes you guessed
it-at the auction. The week before this came up we had a wicker screen, and
I forgot to leave a bid on it, then this one came up and forgot to bid again,
but no one bought it so I got it next to nothing. Can't understand people,
it is so pretty, but then I guess that everyone doesn't need a tea backdrop.
Go figure, they dont know what they are missing. I hope to paint the wood
white and will be using this for my garden teas.

Thank you for joining me today and come back next Tuesday, hopefully
their won't be any rain.

  1. Dear Betty,

Oh my word haven't you prepared the loveliest tea in your pretty garden?

I think your china is gorgeous - and your hostas are out of this world!

I can't grow hostas because we have a horrible deer problem here, and they LOOOOVE to eat hostas!

I think that is a Japanese Lilac, too - we planted one last year and that's what we call ours too - but I am no expert.

Mine is still in semi bloom, but it is getting so doggone hot it is slowly waning too.

    Happy tea day!!

  2. Oh how I love that darling teapot with the little cottage on it! So many pretty things and your beautiful chocolate pot - outstanding. Yes, I agree, it is a chocolate pot. Looks like all the pieces are handpainted. Your garden is coming along lovely and those lilacs - incredible. I also, love your tea cart and porch!!! So glad you linked!

  3. Hi Betty: I feel like I have to wipe the drool from my mouth! That Prussia set is amazing. They are so hard to come by and when you do find them they are so expensive. That is the most beautiful china I have seen in a very long time. Thank you so much for sharing these beauties. Have a wonderful week. Blessings, Martha

  4. Hello Betty,
Boo hoo, rain! Same here! We had to plan between drops of rain and gusts of wind. lol! But at least our gardens are looking great : ) Your plants are all looking really healthy. Your first rose is a stunner! The new potting bench and your heart shelf are going to look great when you are done with them.
The new tea set from Prussia is so very romantic! You shared so many gorgeous china pieces today. The cottage tea pot is indeed charming! And your paragon and shelley? Oh my! Beautiful too.
Thank you for joining in today even though it was raining. I look forward to seeing your garden tea later when the weather cooperates.
    Hugs,
    Terri

  5. Hi Betty,
Oh my, that teapot with the cottage on it is simply darling! I adore teapots and teacups with cottages and pastoral scenes on them. Your teacups are beauties too. I love the soft pink with roses on the inside. Paragon always makes a pretty teacup. I am anxiously waiting for our berry crop this year. Word has it that a virus has come over from N.S. which could affect them. Hope not! The season is so short. Betty, you did well on the chocolate set. It is gorgeous! What fun to go to the auction every week! Thanks so much for coming to tea. I always enjoy your company. Happy Summer, my friend!

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  7. Hi - I really love the photos - though not sure which are best - the flowers or the food. I'm very fond of hydrangeas as they have so many of them on the island of Guernsey where I was born. But I've never seen a climbing hydrangea - so that's a first!

  11. I love dishes so much, it's no surprise that I have gotten in to having dishes in the garden as well, as ART. Your Plate flower is gorgeous! I've featured a few of mine in posts this past week.
